Road Temporarily Opened After Crews Finished Filling in Sinkhole
A main road between Newberry and Levy County has been reopened. US 27 was closed Tuesday when the Department of Transportation discovered a giant sinkhole below the surface. The sinkhole was about 20 to 30 feet in diameter. The DOT hired a private company to pump the sinkhole full of concrete. The men that removed the roadblock say a temporary fix was put on the road. They say it was sealed up enough for driving, but US 27 will be closed for repaving in a few weeks. The repaving preps were what found the sinkhole in the first place.
