Broken Main Spurs Problems Aplenty
Water gurgled and gushed from a hole in buckled pavement on Second Avenue South near Franklin Street, where 36-inch and 24-inch pipes had been joined as part of Gateway project construction, said Metro Water Services officials. Gateway was without water and had to shut down for the evening, as did Big River Grille on Broadway. The Hilton hotel near the arena, Joe's Crab Shack on Second Avenue and a nearby apartment complex reported rusty-colored water from taps, Harvat said. Fire hydrants were opened in an attempted to flush out the discolored water, she said.
